Fun fact 6/1/2017

The Canary Islands, a series of seven small land masses off the coast of Spain in the Atlantic Ocean, were named for dogs, not birds. The islands were named by the Romans and bore their Latin name: insulae canariae, or “island of dogs.” This name is, in itself, a mystery, for there were no dogs on the islands upon discovery.
