Fun fact 2/23/2017

Along the theme of famous adages, “don’t buy a pig in a poke” comes from the same previously referenced medieval markets where people would buy small piglets in tiny bags or “pokes” (from the French word poque, which developed into the English word “pocket”); often the purchasers of the “pigs in pokes” were be upset to find that their piglets were cats in small bags!
