An avocado’s pit is large because it comes from the Cenozoic era when megafauna (think big mammals, at least 100 lbs. – giant slots, mammoths, etc.) would eat them, roam far distances, defecate, and spread the seed. The avocado hasn’t realized that the mammals disappeared about 13,000 years ago, lucky for us, and now humans cultivate the fruit. THANK GOODNESS.
