Moderate alcohol consumption (1 drink/day for females, 2 drinks/day for males) may have beneficial effects on heath due to reductions in ischemic heart disease, ischemic stroke, and diabetes. It is estimated that 26,000 deaths were averted in 2005 because of moderate alcohol consumption.
